Shop Built Hydraulic Press

I built this hydraulic Press from scrap pieces or 1/4" and 3/8" wall square tubing and channel iron. The jack is a Jet 8 ton which I had on hand. I added a T handle to the valve. The round rods are 1" and the top cross bar is 1" x 2" solid bar. The upper cross member was a piece of 3" x 6" rectangular tube, 3/8" wall. I trimmed it down to about 4" in the center as you can see so that it wouldn't use up so much tavel of the ram. The side members are 2" x 3" x 1/4" wall. The main ram and ram extensions are from broken Port-A-Power sets I found at a local tool store. This reduces moving the anvil table up and down to a minimum. I've been using it for seveal years now and it has worked out very well. Compared to the cheaper commercial presses I have seen I think this one would easily handle a 20 ton jack.
