I shined up the side of the pulley with Scotch-brite(steel wool will also work) and then painted half of it flat black for the sensor target. I mounted the tach in my dc motor control box. The metal bracket to hold the sensor is mounted with double faced foam tape. This works very well and requirs no drilling on the headstock casting.
